Monsanto, or as an Instagrammer’s daughter curiously named “the troll village” (@bmtq), was bestowed back in 1938 the title of the most “Portuguese town in Portugal.” The village stands on a mountain top with what we can only imagine are superb views of the surroundings, because when we visited the fog didn’t really let us see anything. Tiny streets, mossy boulders that are sometimes even part of the the houses structures, caves, castle and surprising views, are just some of the things you can expect from a visit. I’m not sure as to why this town is considered the most Portuguese town in Portugal because really, being from Portugal this town is quite unique both in the surroundings and in the architecture.
